Pytanie #1:
Hi,
I recently purchased a new laptop, and need help increasing the screen resolution. The laptop is an ASUS N53J, the specs are as follows:
-Intel i5-450M 2.4GHz
-4gb Ram
-Nvidia Geforce GT 335M 1 gb
-500gb hd
-15.6" HD/LED backlit screen
-Blu ray
-Win 7 premium
It's a pretty fantastic laptop, save for the relatively low maximum resolution. My computer knowledge is pretty basic so I hope this isn't a question with a blatantly obvious answer.
Is it possible to increase the maximum resolution beyond the stock maximum: 1366x786
Also, for my own knowledge, what limits max resolution? Screen size, GPU, etc.
Thanks in advance,
Luke

I purchased a Sharp LCD television as well as a Samsung HTC5500. I have a Wii hooked up to the television through component cables, Xbox 360 and DirecTV cable box through separate HDMI cables. The surround sound also is a blu-ray player which is hooked up to the television via HDMI as well. When I plug the optical cable directly into the television, there is no sound outputting through the speakers, but there is full 5.1 support when plugging the cable directly into the DirecTV cable box. How can I get all 3 devices to play through my surround system? Thank you.
To be more specific, how do I get my Sharp LC47sb57ut to output sound to my Samsung HTC-5500? My Wii outputs sound to the TV correctly via the component cable, and my XBox and DirecTV output correctly through their individual HDMI connections. When I hook them up individually to the Samsung (DirecTV via Optical cable, XBox via component cable while RGB to TV), they work fine. I just want to know how to get my items connected directly to the TV via HDMI cable to output sound to my Theater system? Plugging in an optical cable between the 2 has not worked. Thank you all for the help.

I use AA rechargeable batteries and they charge 4 AAs in 15 minutes;
no need to be wired to the console when you got this
changing batteries is a flash no need to be wired to the ps3 for 1 hour or more when you got two extra rechargeable AAs near by
yeah ps3 is built in but I can't replace them as easily
so you say its heavier, I say having wires is a bigger con
I hear that it takes at least one hour to fully charge ps3 batteries, sources - yahoo answers
oh yeah these batteries I'm talking about, I use them for everything, tv remotes, stereo remote, mp3 player, AAAs, xbox controller, flash lights, ect. get the picture. yeah it charges AAAs too. they last just as long as throw away batteries too. saved me tons of money
I never heard once, ps3 batteries last longer than xbox.
Beat that ps3 fans, oh yeah only talk about batteries, no blu-ray stuff. Can you prove me wrong or is this just preference? Defend your ps3
i go 2 weeks on two AAs
4 in 15 mins
takes 7.5 minutes to recharge
my xbox controller never broke and I got it used
yep its just preference, thanks
you still buy batteries for your other electronics don't you cause I don't
or maybe there also built in

For electronic equipment, ie dvd/blu-ray recorders?
Or is it a better option to buy online, ie getprice.com.au , etc.?
Considering purchasing a Panasonic Viera dvd recorder (model DMR-XW380 or 480).
Pytanie #8:
Your Open QuestionShow me another »
What is best option for us - DVD or Blu-Ray Recorder?
Have a Panasonic Viera LCD (TH-L32X10A) digital television, connected to a LG DVD player and also a LG VHS recorder/player. Currently we can only record analogue but not digital programs.
Have seen a Panasonic Viera cast (unsure what this "Cast" means) DVD Recorder/player for $635 online or $700 AUS in Harvey Norman's latest store catalogue (model DMR-XW380), twin HD tuner, 175 hours of HD quality that can be recorded onto 250 GB HDD in HM mode.
Newer model (DMR-XW480) has double : (350 hours) - 500 GB HDD in HM mode. Online cost is $790 AUS.
Would we still be able to record/watch DVD's on a Blu-Ray Recorder?
Have seen a Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorder for $999 AUS (250 GB) Model DMRBW780 or $1,196 AUS (500 GB) for Model DMRBW880, advertised by Harvey Norman.
We are not interested in 3D technology. We have quite a large DVD (and VHS) collection we wish to retain. Do not wish to pay for technology that we would not need, although prefer Panasonic Viera for compatibility would like to find a suitable reasonably priced option.
Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Hi there, I'm putting this out on behalf of my brother who's looking to upgrade his laptop to have a Blu Ray drive. Anyways, here's the question:
I'm looking to switch out my current DVD drive with a Blu Ray one. I have many reasons for doing so but I'm not sure which specific one to get.
I don't see the point of posting the specs as I doubt they'd really influence this at all. Either way, it hasn't been customised so its an 'out-of-the-box' laptop so whatever ASUS G73Jh you find should have these specs. All I know is that its the one that didn't come with Blu Ray as standard, hence the upgrade.
So yeah, its obviously a laptop but I know that out of all things a disc drive can be ugraded on them. So really, if anyone has any advice I'd really really appreciate it. If external ones are good, can you recommend a specific one? Or if its an internal one requiring a switch out, what's the best that would fit into the laptop and not look out of place?
I know its a big ask but I really don't know how to proceed.
Thanks guys!!
Pytanie #19:
Well, I have Red Cliff, on Blu Ray. The Picture quality and sound was mind blowing. I think epic military scenes belong on Blu Ray. So being very impressed with John Woo's Red Cliff, I decide to purchase 2 more Blu Ray films. I brought 300, and Taking Of Pelham 123 (Tony Scott). I was extremely disappointed and feel that I have wasted £25. I thought the difference was minimal between the DVD and Blu Ray. Maybe the Red Cliff film was just too good, and the other films could not lift a candle to the masterpiece. What are your thoughts? I think the Blu Ray films are very inconsistent in quality. Maybe I should stick to the cheaper DVDs.

By the way, this game is bloody violent on the cut scenes, not a game for kids.

I have a group of buddies from work that I usually play MMO's with...like Dungeons and Dragons Online and Guild Wars when they first came out. The problem is that they tend to lose interest quickly or they have computer issues. Then I realized that most of us have PS3's but we mainly use them for sports games and Blu-Ray movies. Are there any PS3 games out there that would be fun to play together that aren't shoot'em up games? I wasn't a huge fan of the Halo games on the Xbox's, they are fun but I was looking for more of a fantasy or some kind of co-op game where you can progress like an RPG...does that exist on the PS3?

I have a laptop that is said to max out at 4 gigs of RAM. However, this laptop also came installed with Windows Vista 32bit. I am now running Windows 7 64bit and am wondering if it now has the capability of handling more RAM? I looked on Crucial's website to see the capabilities of my laptop and they unfortunately don't have my variation on their database. So, can I even put more than 4 gigs of RAM into my laptop? I'm an architecture student and I want a laptop that will last me for at least four years of undergraduate study. I know for sure that we will be using Adobe CS5 and a few different CAD programs so I want something that will run those programs smoothly without any performance issues.
I've heard a lot of good things about Macs but I've never owned one before and if I'm going to make such a large investment, I want to know that this laptop will last me for all the time that I need it. If I got the MacBook Pro, I also planned on dual booting both Mac OS 10.6 and Windows 7 because the copy of CS5 that I have is the Windows version, along with every other software program that I have.
The MacBook Pro with an educational discount would cost $1699 (+$180 for a copy of Windows 7). The HP with the educational discount would be $1258.
Based on this information, which one would be the better investment in the long run?
Arko Vigu-
1. I consider a computer an investment in my education. I know that the machine itself will depreciate in value over time, but some things hold their value better than others which is why I was hoping to get some input from people who have owned either one or both types of these machines.
2. I don't recall making the argument that a Mac is better for creative design work. I merely listed the programs that I knew we were going to be using.
3/4. I don't think that a person who asks a legitimate question in a polite and articulate manner is being a smart ass. I think the real smart ass is the person who feels the need to brag about their own abilities and "superior" educational achievements when answering a simple question. Oh, and just so you know, I'm a college student already, so get off your high horse and quit pretending that you know so much more about college life than me and everyone else.
Pytanie #34:
I live in a very rural area and cannot receive over-the-air TV (per tvfool.com) and I can only afford the cheapest basic cable (landlady won't allow dishes). This basic cable DOES have some free HD stations (primarily local network TV). Since I need a new TV anyway I am considering an HDTV. The thing is it just seems like such a hassle--it's not like the “old” days when you could just go and get a TV, plug it in and go; now you have to KNOW things and do plenty of research beforehand. I am not a techie but I understand resolution, size, and frame speed, and such, but the more banal questions regarding every day use of an HDTV elude me and I'm hoping y'all can help me out.
Question 1: If I switch from an HD channel immediately to an SD channel, do I have to change the resolution manually each time I switch between an HD and an SD channel or do HDTVs adjust resolution automatically?
Question 2: What is the resolution of standard DVDs? I hit the local Red Box regularly and much of my TV-watching is rented DVDs. Will they be displayed properly on an HDTV? Will I have to manually change the setup for viewing DVDs and then back to SD/HD each time?
Question 2a: Do I need a new DVD player to display DVDs properly? I also own several old DVDs that I don't plan on replacing with Blu-Ray (yet). These old DVDs work just fine on the old boxy SDTVs with my ancient pre-HDTV DVD player, but do I need a new DVD player capable of displaying them on an HDTV? Ditto VHS.
Question 3: If I wanted to stream Netflix to the HDTV, would I need a TV with internet access, or could I just connect my laptop to the TV and stream it from the internet through the pc?
Question 4: I've heard that HDCP compliance has caused nightmares for some folks trying to hook their pc up to their HDTV. My laptop is not HDCP compliant (I don't think). Does this mean I cannot view video from my pc (whether Netflix, YouTube, Veoh, other downloads, or even home movies) on the HDTV using an HDMI cable? If, per chance, my pc IS HDCP compliant, could that be a problem viewing video on an HDTV?
Question 5: If I CAN watch video from my pc on my HDTV, do I need a TV with 1080 resolution? I'm not a sportsfan or much of a gamer, and don't plan on buying a Blu-Ray setup soon, so I really don't feel compelled to go for 1080 unless viewing from my pc, Netflix, or old DVD player calls for it. My laptop's resolution is 1366x768 so I am concerned that a TV resolution of 720p is not gonna cut it. Might I have to change my laptop's settings to a lower resolution to accommodate the lower resolution of the TV?
Question 6: What is the average lifespan of HDTVs? Every review of every make and model I've seen links to several dissatisfied consumers who had their TV fail after only a year or two of use. I realize that's a LOT of technology to fit in a small and (in my case) cheap package so I don't expect it to last as long as my old CRTs did (I still have a tiny SHARP TV from 1984 that works—but has no 'modern' hookups). Is it reasonable to expect a short enough life expectancy to warrant an extended warranty?
I think that's it. My sister had a new HDTV for all of two days. She found both DVD playback and SD reception to be very blurry. She also couldn't get her pc to connect to the TV. If those are inherent problems with HD technology, I think I might just try and find an old SD TV and make do.
Thanks!

I want to get a new laptop and bluray add-ons are getting more and more affordable these days, as it's only a $50 upgrade option on many laptop custom builds. I'm just wondering though, if I get a laptop with the bluray, then it would be perfect to connect to our 65 inch DLP tv. Would you need a heck of a graphics processor though to play it smoothly though? I was looking at one with an ATI Mobility HD 5650?
But does the size of the screen itself make a difference?

Recently I set up a patch cat5e (ethernet) cable from my router to my computer and it it keeps "acquiring network address" for a split second then going back to "network cable unplugged". The one connected directly to the blu-ray player isn't working either, but there's no way to tell if the connection is blinking like on my computer.(someone else crimped these cables, and re-did it multiple times but it still doesn't work).
Anything I could try and mess with on the Router or on my Computer to try and get a connection?
Doug: I have moved the modem/router into this room and used a shorter ethernet cable and it worked, but that was before we tried this cable, maybe my computers jack broke or something ridiculous.
I'm going to try and find out what power cycling is right now.
T2: It's not a crossover, I guess I should try to restart the modem and all. For some reason that idea never entered my mind. If that doesn't work I'd imagine I could scrape together 25 bucks. You see my mother put the internet in my uncles room, since he needs it more, and now I'm on a wireless connection, which isn't doing very good for gaming. My latency spikes to 600 or so and it's just ludicrous.

Mine would be a small apartment, very high in the middle of the city. it would have a bedrooms, a living room, a library, a bathroom, and a nice balcony that you can view the entire city from! It would have a water feature, a gaming and entertainment center, nice hand-made furniture, a small theater, and my favorite operettas on Blu-Ray. The colors would be either white and some harsh colors like mauve or indigo, or it would have some nice earthy colors.
I don't know, but I love it this way!

I'd be using it on a Acer F19 monitor and I'm not sure if it even makes any sense since, technically, it's not a fullhd monitor.
Pytanie #50:
Okay I bought a beastly Acer Aspire 8943G last week- seemed perfect, 8gb ram, i7 processor ATI 5850, 18.4, blu-ray writer, built in tv tuner great design... but the dream machine was more or less dead on arrival, and crashes every five minutes. it was £1599 so definitely not cheap
So I'm taking it back right now, because I need this laptop for uni and work, and my choices are:
Toshiba Qosmio X500-13P: £1799, 18.4 HD, 8gb ram, blu ray writer, i7 740, nvidia 360, ugggggllly design
Sony Vaio F Series: £1499, 16.4 HD, 8gb, blu writer, i7 740, nvidia 330, simple design
I'm leaning towards the Sony because I think they are a more reliable brand, but 16.4 is kinda small for me after having the 18.4, and seeing as I do alot of video rendering and 3d-design, I want that screen real estate. The Toshiba is so expensive and ugly but it has everything, plus one of the best gpus available in a notebook. I'm quite gutted about the Acer it really seemed perfect, but my brother says acer have a bad sigma so I don't know if I should take the chance and just get a replacement Acer??
thanks for your help!!
( ps not considering a macbook pro 17 right now as to get the i7, 17" is beyond my budget)
thanks for the answers so far
yep, i know how popular acer is quite a few of my friends have them, and similarly quite a few have had problems too
it's gotta be a laptop as i travel to and from uni often and can't lug a desktop even though i would prefer one :(
i personally don't like dell and like i said at 2k+ mbp 17 with i7 is beyond my budget and it's not even compatible with many of the software i regularly use- no point buying a mac just to bootcamp windows
